What It Does
AE GPT is a chat-based AI assistant that lives inside Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects. You type what you want in plain English, and it writes expressions, fixes errors, or offers creative suggestions based on your current project context. It does not use a built-in AI model; instead, you connect it to your own API key from OpenAI, Google, or Anthropic and choose which model to use.
Key Features
Multi-model support. Switch between GPT-5.1, Gemini 3, and Claude 4.5 Opus from a dropdown selector. Different models suit different tasks: GPT tends to handle expression syntax well, Claude works for creative brainstorming, and Gemini is useful for project analysis.
Context-aware analysis. When you ask a question, AE GPT reads your active composition or sequence automatically, including layer names, effects, and timeline structure. This means answers are grounded in your actual project rather than generic tutorials.
Expression tools. Convert a plain English description into a working expression with syntax highlighting in the chat panel, then apply it to the selected property with one click. If an existing expression throws an error, you can paste it in and ask AE GPT to fix it.
Premiere Pro support. Added in v1.1.0, the panel now works inside Premiere Pro for editing assistance, clip organization, and task automation alongside the original After Effects functionality.
Local API key storage. Your API keys stay on your machine. No project data is sent to external servers beyond what you explicitly share in the chat prompt.
Who It’s For
Motion designers who write expressions regularly will get the most out of it, particularly for translating intent into working code without digging through documentation or forums. Editors who have moved into Premiere Pro and want AI assistance without switching applications will also find the v1.1 update useful. It requires you to have and pay for your own API account with OpenAI, Google, or Anthropic, so there is an ongoing cost to use the underlying AI beyond the plugin purchase itself.
