What It Does

SkyBox 360/VR Tools for Premiere Pro, developed by Mettle, was a dedicated toolkit for editing equirectangular 360/VR footage directly inside Premiere Pro. It let editors composite 2D elements into spherical video, apply corrective effects, and adjust camera orientation, all without leaving the timeline.

Important note: This plugin is no longer available for purchase. Adobe acquired the Mettle SkyBox suite and integrated its functionality into Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro CC 2018 and later). If you are on a current Creative Cloud subscription, the core features are already built into Premiere Pro.

Key Features

Project 2D. Place flat assets, text, logos, and 2D video clips onto 360 footage with correct spherical mapping, so they sit naturally in the scene rather than appearing distorted.

360 Seamless Effects. A set of effects including Blur, Denoise, Glow, and Sharpen that wrap correctly across the equirectangular frame, avoiding visible seams at the edges.

Tilt, Pan, and Roll. Reorient the camera perspective of 360 footage after capture. Useful for correcting a tilted horizon or recentering the focal point of a scene.

Horizon Correction. Straighten a crooked horizon line in 360 footage, a common issue when shooting with rigs that are not perfectly level.

GPU Acceleration. All tools run on both OpenCL and CUDA, keeping render times manageable even with multiple effects stacked on a sequence.

Effects could be applied directly to 360 clips or to an Adjustment Layer, which made applying transitions across multiple clips practical.

Who It’s For

This tool was aimed at editors working on 360/VR productions who needed to stay in Premiere Pro rather than round-tripping to After Effects for every compositing task. It was used in productions for Greenpeace, GoPro, CNET, and DreamWorksTV. If you are on an older Premiere Pro version (CC 2017 or earlier) and need this functionality, the legacy plugin may still work with an existing license, but active support has ended.

Pricing

Originally sold as a one-time purchase at $189.00 through aescripts.com. The plugin is no longer available for sale. Equivalent functionality is included with an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription via the built-in VR effects in Premiere Pro.
