What It Does
Screen Saver Exporter takes a video from Premiere Pro, After Effects, or Media Encoder and packages it as a fully installable screen saver, either as a .scr file or an .msi installer for Windows, or a .saver bundle for macOS. The process is a single click from inside the plugin.
This fills a fairly specific niche: motion designers or studios that want to deliver animated screen savers to clients as a finished product, without writing any platform-specific code or dealing with codec licensing.
Key Features
One-click export to installer. The plugin handles all packaging details, producing a distributable file your client can install directly. No manual steps after export.
Cross-platform export. You can export a Windows screen saver from macOS, and a macOS screen saver from Windows. Both formats from a single plugin on either OS.
Audio and video support. Exported screen savers play back with audio, using codecs that are not encumbered by patent licensing, so you can sell the output commercially.
Multi-monitor support. Screen savers run correctly across multiple displays, which is a common pain point with custom screen saver implementations.
Apple Silicon native (v2.0+). The 2024 v2.0 release added a new screen saver engine that runs natively on Apple Silicon and reduces CPU usage significantly compared to previous versions.
Fit and stretch modes. Choose whether the video stretches to fill the screen or preserves its aspect ratio with cropping.
Who It’s For
This is a tool for motion designers and studios that produce branded or animated content and want to deliver screen savers as part of a client package. It is not a general-purpose export utility. If your clients have never asked for a screen saver, this probably is not for you. If they have, and you have been building them manually or outsourcing that step, this removes that friction entirely.
Compatibility on the Premiere Pro side is limited: the listing notes Media Encoder support from Premiere Pro CS6 to the latest version, though the Premiere Pro panel itself only lists CS6 as a confirmed compatible version. After Effects users have much broader version support (CS6 through 2025).
