What It Does

Subtitle Pro is a panel-based plugin for Premiere Pro and After Effects that handles the full subtitle workflow without leaving your editing application. You can write subtitles from scratch, import an existing SRT or other subtitle file, or pull captions directly from a YouTube video by pasting the URL. Once your text is in, the plugin handles timing, translation, export, and styling.

Key Features

SRT and multi-format import/export. Subtitle Pro reads and writes all common subtitle formats, with full encoding support including UTF-8, UTF-8 with BOM, ANSI, and UTF-16. Useful for international productions or client deliverables that require specific file types.

YouTube caption importer. Paste a YouTube link and pull the captions directly into the panel. A fast way to repurpose existing content or work from auto-generated transcripts.

One-click translation. Translate your subtitle rows inside the plugin without switching to a separate browser tab or service. Now supports Chinese and other East Asian languages following a 2024 API fix.

Overlap finder. Flags subtitle rows where timecodes overlap, so you catch timing conflicts before rendering.

Time shifting. Shift all rows or a selected range forward or backward with dedicated UI controls. Handy when audio sync drifts across a long cut.

Animation templates (After Effects only). Five template categories are available: Classic Subtitle, Simple Animation, Fading Animation, Abstract Animation, and Lower Thirds. These go beyond plain text and let you apply styled subtitle looks directly in AE. Note that animation templates and marker-based control are not currently available in Premiere Pro.

Table view and autosave. Subtitle rows are displayed in a spreadsheet-style table. The plugin saves your work automatically, so you won’t lose data between sessions.

Who It’s For

Subtitle Pro suits editors who regularly add subtitles to interviews, documentaries, educational content, or social videos. The YouTube importer is particularly useful for YouTube creators or editors working with existing video content. The lower-thirds templates make it multi-purpose for motion graphics work in After Effects.

Premiere Pro users get the core subtitle workflow: import, write, translate, time-shift, and export. After Effects users get the full feature set, including animation templates and marker sync.

Pricing

Subtitle Pro is a one-time purchase at $49.99 for a single-user license. A floating server license is also available for studio use. A free trial can be downloaded before buying. Upgrade pricing is available for existing users when logged in to an aescripts account.
