What It Does

Data Glitch 2 is a native plugin from Rowbyte that replicates digital image corruption directly in Premiere Pro and After Effects. Rather than stacking built-in effects to fake a glitch, it actually encodes the image data, corrupts it, and decodes it, mimicking the compression errors you’d see from a damaged satellite feed, a corrupt video file, or a failing codec.

The result is more convincing than most manual glitch techniques, and it works on any layer including text and logos thanks to alpha channel support.

Key Features

Four glitch types. Scan, Block, Offset, and Rect each produce distinct visual behaviors. You can mix them or isolate a single type depending on the effect you need.

Per-channel control. Each glitch can be adjusted independently across color channels, with per-channel random seed control. Useful when you want a red channel shift that behaves differently from the green or blue.

YUV and RGB support. Version 2 added YUV color space support alongside RGB, which matters when you want glitches that mimic broadcast encoding artifacts more accurately.

Image compression control. You can dial in how aggressively the compression artifact is applied, and optionally use an image map to drive where the glitch appears on screen.

Alpha channel support. Apply glitches directly to text layers or logo graphics without losing the transparency information. Good for title sequences where you want the glitch to stay within the letterforms.

Expression-driven animation. Parameters are accessible via expressions, so you can tie glitch intensity to audio amplitude or any other data source for reactive animations.

Who It’s For

Editors and motion designers who want a believable digital glitch without building it manually. It fits naturally into title sequences, music video cuts, cyberpunk or sci-fi aesthetics, and any project that calls for a corrupted-signal look. Because it runs natively in Premiere Pro, you can apply it directly to clips in your timeline without roundtripping to After Effects.
