What It Does
Depth Scanner 2 uses AI to generate depth maps from images and video clips directly inside Premiere Pro and After Effects. The resulting depth map becomes a usable output for effects like atmospheric fog, stereo-3D conversion, depth-based color grading, and post-process depth of field. It runs entirely on your local GPU or CPU, no cloud processing involved.
Key Features
8 depth estimation models. Choose from a range of models to find the best fit for your footage type. The latest addition, Depth Anything v3, was added in November 2025.
Native video depth estimation. A dedicated video model analyzes frames in sequence rather than individually, producing temporally consistent results that avoid the flickering common in per-frame approaches.
Double sampling. An additional processing pass that further stabilizes depth output across frames, useful for longer clips or footage with motion.
20+ color maps. Visualize depth data using a variety of color gradients, either as a guide during setup or as a stylistic effect in the final output.
Local processing. Everything runs on your machine. Windows systems with an NVIDIA GPU of 8GB or more get the best performance. Apple Silicon with macOS Sequoia and 16GB RAM is also fully supported.
Who It’s For
Depth Scanner 2 suits compositors and colorists who want to add spatial effects to flat footage without access to a dedicated depth channel from a 3D render. It’s practical for travel filmmakers wanting to add depth-of-field to drone shots, editors creating stereo-3D output, or anyone doing depth-based masking for selective color grading. The Premiere Pro integration (added in version 2.4.47) makes it accessible without switching to After Effects.
