What It Does
Geometric Filter converts source footage into a mosaic of geometric shapes by detecting similarly colored pixels and connecting them with primitives like lines, curves, triangles, and circles. The result mimics hand-drawn contours or abstract style-transfer effects, but with direct parameter control rather than neural network guesswork.
It works in both After Effects and Premiere Pro (CS6 through 2025), making it accessible without leaving your editing timeline.
Key Features
Six shape types. Choose from lines, curves, triangles, squares, circles, or rectangles. Each produces a distinct visual character, from sketchy linework to blocky polygon fills.
Recursion Steps. This parameter lets the algorithm follow stretches of continuous color in a single direction, producing more pronounced traced outlines rather than scattered shapes.
Starting Position Strategy. Controls where shapes are placed: Random, Stable Random, or Grid. This matters most when animating, since it determines whether the effect feels jittery or locked to the image.
Filter Intensity. Added in v1.2.1, this lets you blend the effect against the original footage without needing to adjust opacity at the layer level.
Skip Frame(s). Reduces the effective frame rate fed into the filter, which suppresses temporal jitter and gives results a cel-animation quality.
Composite On Original. Overlays the geometric output on top of the unfiltered image, useful for filling gaps left by sparse shape counts.
20 built-in presets. A quick way to explore the range of looks before digging into individual parameters. All parameters are fully keyable.
Rendering is CPU-based (no GPU acceleration), supports multi-frame rendering, and handles resolutions up to 16,384 pixels vertically.
Who It’s For
Geometric Filter suits editors and motion designers working on music videos, VJ loops, visualizations, or any project that needs a distinctive hand-crafted or procedural visual style. It is developed by Satori and distributed through aescripts.com.
Pricing
Geometric Filter is a one-time purchase at $43.99 for a single-user license. Floating server and render-only license options are also available. A free trial is offered on the aescripts product page.
