What It Does

Mettle Flux generates 3D volumetric fractal flames directly inside Premiere Pro and After Effects. The output ranges from deep-space nebulas and atmospheric aurora effects to abstract sci-fi backgrounds. It works in standard flat video, 360/VR monoscopic, and stereoscopic over-under and side-by-side formats, making it one of the few fractal tools built with immersive content in mind.

Rendering is GPU-accelerated, so you get interactive feedback rather than waiting through long offline renders that traditional fractal tools typically require.

Key Features

Flux Preset Panel. A dedicated panel lets you apply full animation presets with a single click. Presets include named looks like Blooming Fern, Laniakea, Starburst, and Solar Wind, giving you a solid starting point before customizing.

Force Field with OBJ import. You can load an OBJ mesh to define the shape of the Force Field, which controls how the fractal flame is sculpted. Rotation controls let you animate the field over time.

Mutations and Randomize button. The Mutations system varies the fractal structure, and the Randomize button generates new variations on demand. Useful when you want something unexpected without manually tweaking parameters.

Globe Preview Panel. For 360/VR work, a dedicated Globe Preview panel lets you view and adjust your result in a spherical projection, so you can judge the full equirectangular output without leaving the plugin.

Render Modes. Beyond standard rendering, Flux includes Depth, Anaglyph, Equiluma, and Cross Section modes. Recursive Zoom and clipping planes (including OBJ-based clipping) add further control over the final look.

Built-in camera. Premiere Pro lacks After Effects’ native 3D camera system, so Flux includes its own built-in camera for both hosts. In After Effects, it also supports the native AE 3D camera for integrated compositing.

Audioreactive potential. Flux parameters can be driven externally, and it pairs with Trapcode Soundkeys for audioreactive animations.

Who It’s For

Flux is aimed at motion graphics artists and VFX compositors who need organic, procedural space or atmospheric imagery without resorting to stock footage. It’s particularly well suited to 360/VR producers building immersive environments, and to editors who need sci-fi or cosmic backgrounds that would otherwise require a separate 3D application. The preset system means you don’t need deep fractal math knowledge to get results quickly.

Pricing

Mettle Flux is a one-time purchase at $229. A free trial download is available for system testing before buying. Upgrade pricing is available for existing owners (requires login). Flux is also available as part of the Mettle Super Suite alongside Mantra V2 and FreeForm Pro, which bundles all three at a discount. Academic and volume pricing are offered separately through aescripts.
