What It Does

Mocha Pro is Boris FX’s planar tracking tool, used across film, broadcast, and commercial post-production for decades. Available as an Adobe plug-in, it launches directly inside Premiere Pro and After Effects using the host’s media engine, so there’s no need to transcode footage or manage external file formats.

Planar tracking is the foundation of everything in Mocha. Rather than tracking individual feature points, it analyzes flat planes within the image, which makes it far more reliable on shots with motion blur, low detail, or partial occlusions.

Key Features

GPU-Accelerated Planar Tracking. The core tracking engine runs on the GPU, with motion blur rendering up to 4x faster in recent versions. Unlimited tracking layers and the AdjustTrack module let you correct drift caused by reflections, noise, or occlusions.

Remove Module. One of the most-used features, the Remove Module automatically detects clean frames and blends surrounding pixels to erase unwanted elements like rigs, wires, tracking markers, or camera equipment. It’s a time-saving alternative to manual clone and paint work.

Mega Plate Module. Uses planar tracking and temporal frame analysis to stitch together an extended canvas larger than the original frame. Useful for object removal, matte painting, sky replacement, and set extensions where you need to see beyond the edges of the shot.

Rotoscoping Tools. Magnetic splines with edge-snapping create detailed masks without requiring precise drawing. Shapes stay vector throughout the project, which keeps things editable on high-resolution work. The Area Brush converts paint strokes into vector splines for faster layer creation, with Wacom tablet support for pressure-sensitive input.

Stabilize Module. Locks down shaky shots or smooths camera jitter using planar tracking data. Includes a smooth option with selectable anchor frames that reduces high-frequency movement while preserving the original camera feel.

Insert Module. Renders match moves and screen inserts with accurate motion blur or mesh warp distortion. Combines with the Lens Module for realistic compositing on footage with lens distortion.

Lens Module. Calibrates and removes lens distortion for clean compositing. For 360/VR footage, a simplified undistort and distort workflow handles both mono and stereo equirectangular formats.

3D Camera Solver. Solves 3D camera motion from user-selected planar data rather than feature points, making it practical on shots where standard camera trackers struggle. Exports to FBX or native After Effects format for use in 3D applications.

360/VR and Stereo Support. Includes all Mocha VR tools for mono and stereoscopic 360 workflows, covering tracking, masking, horizon stabilization, object removal, nadir patching, and spherical video post. The stereo workflow analyzes both eye views simultaneously to reduce manual offset and keyframe work.

OpenColorIO Color Management. ACES-compatible OCIO support for consistent color display when working alongside Nuke, Flame, Avid, or other color-managed applications.

Mocha Pro is no longer sold directly through aescripts and is available via Boris FX or authorized resellers like Toolfarm.
