What It Does
Frankenstein generates precise mattes for individual facial features, including skin, eyes, mouth, and teeth. These mattes let you isolate specific parts of a face for targeted color adjustments, compositing, or stylized effects. The AI model runs entirely on your local machine, so there’s no cloud upload or internet dependency during processing.
It works in both Premiere Pro and After Effects (2024, 2025, 2026).
Key Features
Per-feature face segmentation. Select and combine mattes for specific facial regions through a simple panel UI. Skin, eyes, mouth, and teeth can each be isolated independently or combined.
Local AI engine. All processing happens on your hardware. On supported systems (NVIDIA GPU with 8GB+ VRAM, or Apple Silicon with macOS Sequoia and 16GB+ RAM), results are fast. On other Windows configurations, processing is significantly slower, and non-Apple Silicon Macs are not supported.
Non-destructive workflow. Mattes are generated as separate outputs you can feed into color correction, keying, or compositing workflows without altering the original footage.
Active development. The plugin has received regular updates since its October 2025 release, including a CUDA memory sharing option for 4K+ resolutions, a new AI backend, and a Stop Processing button for canceling long renders.
Who It’s For
Frankenstein is a practical tool for colorists and compositors doing portrait work. Common uses include teeth whitening, skin tone adjustments, eye color grading, and creative face-based effects. It saves significant time compared to manual rotoscoping for facial feature isolation.
Note the system requirements carefully before purchasing. Windows users without a qualifying NVIDIA GPU will see slow performance, and older or Intel-based Macs are not supported at all.
