What It Does
Rescue Matte Cleaner processes pre-keyed green screen footage to fix common matte problems without manual frame-by-frame painting. It removes noise, artifacts, tracking dots, booms, and other unwanted objects using rule-based logic tied to size, color, or position. On a 750-frame sequence covered in tracking dots, for example, you set a size rule and the plugin removes all of them automatically.
Note: this plugin has been discontinued and is no longer available for purchase.
Key Features
Pre-clean by size. Most background noise and unwanted objects are small relative to your subject. A single size threshold wipes them out in one pass, covering tracking dots, grain blobs, and compression artifacts simultaneously.
Color range removal. A flexible color picker lets you target objects by hue and luminance range. Separate hi, mid, and lo selectors handle uneven lighting rolloff across the frame.
Position-based removal. Identify objects that appear behind the subject or on the frame edge. Useful for booms and rigs that drift into frame.
Smart extend. Expands matte edges into adjoining areas to compensate for motion blur, soft focus, or poorly lit backgrounds.
Motion-sensitive processing. Handles footage where motion blur is bleeding through the key, reducing false cleanup in those edge zones.
Feather and shrink-grow. Fine-tune the final matte edge after rule-based cleanup.
HUD color display. False-color overlay shows which areas are currently selected or rejected by your rules, so you can adjust without guessing.
4K and above is supported.
Who It’s For
Editors and compositors working with imperfect green screen footage, particularly shoots where tracking markers, rigging, or poor lighting have created persistent artifacts across long sequences. The rule-based approach saves significant time compared to rotoscoping or manual matte painting when the same problem repeats across many frames.
